building nests, revisited

I have been absent and sporadic for a few months, but I want to announce a new commitment to building our nest! It’s been absolutely crazy since D and I got engaged, but not necessarily with wedding stuff. We just lead a crazy life, which I should document here, so now I am renewing my dedication to this blog.

Wedding updates will have to come at a later time. But I have a few new things to share!

wedding update – a dress!

I bought a dress! On our first dress shopping adventure, my mother, Dan’s mother, my sister (also the Maid of Honor) and my friend Nicole (a bridesmaid) headed for a cute little boutique, Flutter, just to look.

wedding plans and pins

Just the other day I realized it is completely legal to doodle my first name with Dan’s last name – it’s not some silly schoolgirl crush activity since I MUST have a beautiful signature! So I spent about five minutes doodling my soon-to-be full name and I just might have it down!

Wedding planning has commenced – and in full force! We’ve picked a venue, set a date {May 5, 2012!} and picked a theme {shabby chic picnic}. My mother said “shabby chic” is too trendy, so she’s calling it French garden picnic but, whatever. We also have colors chosen {dusty/aqua blue, apricot, brown, cream and maybe a sage green, if I can convince Dan}.

Here’s our venue – we’re already on the calendar for next May!

there’s a ring!

It has been almost a month since my last post, and for this I apologize! Our world has been chirping with the talk of …. duh duh duh dah! wedding details!

Dan proposed two weeks ago today, and our life has been aflutter with congratulations and planning details. We viewed a venue Tuesday and hope to book it on Monday. We have talked to most of our groomsmen and half of our bridesmaids, so the ball is rolling!

Check out the ring he designed:

Now for the engagement details:

the nest is all aflutter with the sound of church bells

Yesterday Dan told me to plan a wedding. I complained of being bored at work and not wanting to do anything I needed to (much like now, which is why I’m blogging) and he told me to plan a wedding. Well, I’m not sure he knew what he was in for.

I researched venues. We have one in mind, so I looked up the cost and rental agreement. I even printed it out (which later made Dan laugh a little). I also came up with a tentative timeline, if we are to use that venue.

Dan started it. He told an event planner – who has been dreaming about her wedding day since she was 5 and knew what a wedding was – to plan a wedding. We aren’t yet engaged, so I’m trying not to get too into it, but man! This isn’t fair.

So today at work I discovered StumbleUpon. I didn’t want to put weddings as an interest, but then I did. And crafts. And writing. And gardening. But weddings. Dan has no idea what he’s in for….

long time, no nest

It’s been a while. I know, and I am sorry. The past few weeks have been absolutely crazy – which means I have much to blog about. I promise to update soon – with pictures of my good friend’s wedding, conversations about relationships, and some nesting.
Check back soon!

a deck in a nest

I promised updates about our deck work, and here it is! Two weeks ago Dan and his father completed our deck. The construction was relatively simple – not one part of the deck is attached to the house nor sunk into the ground. However, it is completely stable and sturdy. We are very excited to enjoy coffee, brunch and crosswords on our deck some weekend morning (once Dan is feeling better) this summer! Just the other night we fired up the grill for a dinner of halibut and green beans.

catching up and missing pieces

It’s been two weeks since I have written, but that’s because we have had quite a few weeks!

First of all, Dan and his father built our deck! We have patio furniture, solar lighting and newly transplanted lillies. Check back for further details and pictures soon (they’re in the editing phase right now).

Now for the big news: Dan had an emergency appendectomy last Saturday! He experienced pain for about a week, but we didn’t know what it was. At first we thought he was having severe muscle pains (due to the recent deck raising), then we thought it was the flu. Turns out, he had an angry appendix.

view from the branches!

Check out new pictures uploaded to Flickr from my trip to California last summer. I helped a friend move from Minnesota to California, then spent 10 days sightseeing the Bay Area.

Coming soon: Before and after shots of the backyard because TOMORROW WE’RE GETTING A DECK!! Plus, I will do some landscaping with Dan’s mom.

Fun update: Dan and I are going to Kansas City the first weekend in June to take in a few Twins games and have a long weekend to ourselves. Woot!
